Today, more than ever, organizations need a process that will ensure that investments in people, programs, and projects align with organizational and community needs. The ROI Methodology® is the most applied and documented approach to doing just that. By clarifying needs upfront, designing solutions to address those needs, and evaluating success against the measures that matter, program owners can ensure investments deliver the highest possible return.

"Show me the money!" is the mantra of the day for many executives. But what does this mean? Some stakeholders merely look for participants' reactions to a program, measures of knowledge or skill acquisition, evidence that participants are applying what they have learned, or that they had an impact. Others want to know more. Executives who invest in significant, costly, and strategic programs want to know the investment's payoff from improved output, quality, cost, time, and other key measures. They want to know how the monetary benefits of these improvements compare to the investment. This is the monetary return on investment (ROI).

This session describes the framework, model, and guiding principles that make up the ROI Methodology. Participants will learn the five steps necessary to move from business impact to ROI.

Learning Objectives

After attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the framework and guiding principles for the ROI Methodology.
  • Isolate the effects of a program.
  • Convert benefits to monetary value.
  • Identify the intangible benefits.
  • Tabulate fully loaded costs.
  • Calculate an ROI.
